An agreement was signed for the purchase of the largest number of trains in the history of the Warsaw metro. The contract signed with the Czech company Skoda consisting of 45 modern trains. The trains will contain six wagons. The first train should reach Warsaw in autumn 2021.
On 30th January, Metro Warszawskie signed a contract with the Czech company Skoda for the supply of up to 45 new trains . The basic order includes 37 trains, but there is an option to increase it by another 8. The first train will reach Warsaw within 20 months of signing the contract, i.e. in autumn 2021 at the start of September and October at the latest . The last one after 53 months. A single train will be able to take up to 1500 passengers.
The total cost of the investment is PLN 1.308 billion.
Energy-saving and ecological
The new trains will consist of six single-space wagons. This means that passengers will be able to move freely around the entire train. The vehicles will be equipped with a passenger information system, space for prams and bicycles, space for disabled people , as well as facilities for them such as retractable ramps enabling the wheelchairs and prams to enter the wagon. In addition, each section of the train will be monitored with new and improve levels of security.
he Mayor of Warsaw noted that when choosing a company that would provide new trains, the price was important, wasn’t the only factor. Energy consumption and ecology wa taken into account.
