Social gardens are green oases in urban jungles. They serve the cultivation of vegetables and flowers as well as meetings and neighborly integration. There are almost 30 such places in Warsaw and it seems that the list will not cease to grow – Ursynów authorities invite you to a meeting regarding the creation of such a garden in their district.
Community garden in Ursynów
There are almost 30 social gardens in Warsaw. They differ from each other in nature – in the capital we have both decorative gardens and recreational or fruit and vegetable gardens – but they have one thing in common: they all serve to build social bonds and integration. Green areas are becoming such an important element of the urban landscape that more and more are being created in Warsaw. Another garden will be created in Ursynów. The district has just invited residents to a meeting on this matter.
The idea of creating a social garden came back in several conversations with the inhabitants of our district. That is why we decided to explore this topic and find green areas that can be used for such an initiative. We will present our proposal during the meeting with the the localsBartosz Dominiak, deputy mayor of Ursynów.
The meeting will take place on February 27 at 18.00 at the Ursynów District Office (room 543, fifth floor). Residents will learn about exactly what social gardens are and how they work, learn about examples of such places in the world, and be informed about the financial and organizational possibilities of running such an initiative. Ada Górna, PhD student at the Department of Urban Geography and Spatial Planning at the University of Warsaw, representatives of the Green Board and the Center for Social Communication will take part in the meeting.
