Councilors voted to increase the price of public transport tickets. The new rates will come into force on February 1, 2020. It is possible that this is the last increase in this term.
Before entering the meeting room, each councilor was given an anti-stress ball on the occasion of the centenary of the health department of the Łódź city hall. However, apparently the balls did not fulfill their role, because during the session there was no shortage of emotional councilors’ speeches – especially when adopting a resolution to increase MPK ticket prices.
We cannot burden the residents of MPK with the financial effects of malfunctioning – said Radosław Marzec, chairman of the PiS councilors’ club.
Maciej Sobieraj, deputy director of the Road and Transport Board explained that the revenues from ticket sales cover only 2/3 of MPK’s operating costs, and in 2020 the costs will increase, among others current.
We believe that this term of the Council, i.e. until 2023, will be the last MPK price regulation – said Sylwester Pawłowski, chairman of SLD councils’ clubs.
We will pay 20 groszy more for single tickets. Weekly and monthly passes are expected to rise to 7 percent.
Władysław Skwarka, SLD councilor and chairman of the finance committee, protested against the hasty adoption of the draft resolution without discussing it on the committees. None of the officials could explain why the resolution should be taken now, although it will enter into force only from February 1, 2020. Still, PO-Nowoczesna-SLD coalition councilors voted for the project, and PiS councilors were against.
