LOT Polish Airlines announced on Sunday that all flights to Italy would be suspended until 12 March. Also on this day, another carrier – Wizz Air – announced that it would suspend flights to northern Italy until April 3. In Italy only on Sunday, 133 deaths and nearly 1,500 new coronavirus infections were reported.
Due to the restrictions imposed on movement in northern Italy and the reduced interest in traveling to Venice and Milan, LOT temporarily suspends all flights until March 12. All people who have tickets for these connections will be informed about this – said Michał Czernicki, the spokesperson of LOT.
He also reported that the airline understands that current news about the global epidemiological situation may create uncertainty among airline passengers, “therefore, in order to meet the expectations of its customers, LOT has introduced a policy of flexible rescheduling.”
All those who have bought or will buy a ticket before March 31 now have the option of changing the travel date for free up to until December 31, 2020. We ensure that we constantly monitor the situation and adjust our offer to it on an ongoing basis. Thank you for your confidence in us and we ensure that we make every effort to ensure that our passengers have access to safe and most convenient solutions. Changes to the reservation can be made through LOT Contact Center, as well as via Facebook messages (Messenger)
Wizz Air will not fly to northern Italy
On Sunday, another air carrier, Wizz Air, suspended flights from Warsaw, Gdansk and Katowice to Bergamo in northern Italy. The suspension is expected to apply until April 3. The reason for the decision is to limit the spread of coronavirus, the airlines said in a press release.
The carrier announced the immediate suspension of all connections to Milan, Treviso and Bergamo due to the closure of the region of northern Italy to control the outbreak of the corona virus.
Wizz Air explained in the message that reservations on these directions will be automatically changed to a connection on another route as soon as possible, of which passengers will be automatically informed.
Customers who have made a reservation directly on the website or via the application are to receive an e-mail notification in which they will be offered a free change date reservation, a full refund or a refund of 120%. the original booking value provided in flight credits.
The airline may only inform passengers who have made reservations via the airline’s website or mobile application. Passengers who have made a reservation through an agency or travel agency – including online travel agencies – should contact the company where they bought the tickets.
