The tender for the Łódź Public City Bike system has been postponed for the second time. In 2020, no public bicycles appeared on the streets of Łódź for the first time in years, while cities such as Warsaw already have theirs. It is not known whether they will appear at all.
It is not known whether there will be anyone willing to fund the Łódź Public Bike system. The bikes should have been ‘opened’ on Friday, but the date was postponed for the second time. First they were to be released to the public on 2nd March, now the deadline is 12th March. It is not known whether it will be final.
Tomasz Andrzejewski, spokesman for the Road and Transport Board spokesman explains that the reason for extending the tender is the large number of inquiries regarding the business side of things. – We received about 50 questions about the tender from interested companies – says Andrzejewski.
This means that the deadline for the possible execution of the order is getting further and further away from the expected date.
Under the current terms of the tender, the contractor will have three months to deliver 500 bicycles and a half year for another 1500. This deadline has been extended. Originally, the bikes were to be delivered within 120 days.
The dates will be counted from the signing of the contract, which will take place a few weeks. This means that this year at most the first batch will appear on the streets of Łódź, i.e. 500 bikes and 50 stations. The other main bulk of bikes may not appear until spring 2021.
The city bike system will be created if contractors are found. In the first tender, announced last fall, despite over a hundred inquiries, no company submitted an offer.
In previous years, bikes appeared on the streets of Łódź on the 1st March and rode until the end of November.
