Traditional Polish hospitality at its finest. At least in the hearts of employees, students and graduates of the University of Lodz who decided to invite a total of one hundred foreigners currently studying at the University of Lodz to their homes.
The University of Lodz announced on Wednesday (December 18) about the success of this year’s edition of its action entitled Guest for Christmas. During the Christmas break, they do not return to their homelands (e.g. for economic reasons), but want to feel the atmosphere of Christmas – or, in the case of people outside the Christian culture, are curious about our holiday traditions.
On the other hand, the university was recruiting Polish students, employees and graduates, whose families would be ready to welcome the Guest for Christmas under their roof on one of the holiday days. Yesterday the University of Lodz announced that they had found 64 such families. Some will have more than one guest, so all of the hundred foreigners will be able to enjoy Christmas in a Polish household.
– For the first time in the history of our action, all reported foreign students have found a family – says Paweł Śpiechowicz, spokesman for the University of Lodz (he expects a guest from Kazakhstan).
The university organized the premiere edition of the campaign in 2016. citizens of Afghanistan, Angola, Armenia, Spain, Turkey, Colombia, China, Japan, Uzbekistan, Russia, Georgia and Germany.
A guest for Christmas is one of the installments of the project entitled ‘University of Diversity’. As part of it,students from abroad become, among others heroes of photo exhibitions and meet at culinary workshops. They can also learn Polish. In the current academic year, the University of Lodz expects a total of about 3,000 foreigners (students, exchange participants, etc.).
