Free parking spaces disappeared in autumn from Praga-Północ and Wola. Consultations with residents who want to introduce a zone with parking meters have ended. Moreover, they even propose to expand it. Now is the time to pass the city council.
The Municipal Roads Authority summed up the public consultation in autumn . In Wola and Praga-Północ, talks were held about the expansion of a Paid Unguarded Parking Zone. Dozens of people came to the meetings, and dozens of comments came to Roads Authority via email.
The zone is to be expanded, because with the opening of the second metro line, the problem of the lack of parking spaces has become a chore for the residents of these districts. According to the Roads Authority research, in most locations the average occupancy of parking spaces exceeds 100%. This means that even illegal places, including those that threaten security, are occupied.
“Experience from the existing Roads Authority confirms that the introduction of fees discourages some drivers from entering the zone, also encourages a shorter stop, increasing rotation and making it easier to find a free space. Residents can take advantage of purchasing a subscription entitling them to a free stop near their place of residence, ” explains the Roads Authority.
Most residents are in favor of making changes. What’s more, during meetings in Praga-Północ it was postulated to cover the entire district with a paid parking area. Residents also pointed out that the zone should also be located around Placu Hallera. On the other hand, the Roads Authority wants to increase the number of parking spaces. To this end, some streets in Praga will be transformed into one-way streets, although in this aspect not all were in line (the Roads Authority abandoned the change of traffic organization on Ludwiki and Szarych Szeregów St.).
In Praga-Północ, road workers suggested the areas of ZOO, New Prague and Old Prague and Szmulek. Specific streets along which the paid program will run are indicated:
- ul. Targowa
- al. Solidarności
- ul. Starzyńskiego
- ul. Jagiellońska
- ul. Ratuszowa
- ul. 11 Listopada
- ul. Radzymińska
- ul. Folwarczna
Where is the paid parking zone in Wola?
During meetings in Wola, the inhabitants asked about “when” the zone will be expanded, and not “whether at all”. The problem, with the launch of the second metro line and the expansion of the business center, is particularly visible there. There, residents also mentioned that paid parking should also apply in other places. Therefore, the Roads Authority will recommend that the paid parking areas also be covered by the area between ul. Wolska, Ordon and Kasprzaka.
“The introduction of paid parking program will mean marking all parking spaces. In accordance with the explicit will of residents not to limit the number of parking spaces, a pilot solution is foreseen allowing (in some locations) parking on general terms outside designated areas. The condition will be having a resident’s subscription. This idea was met with great support among residents, “informs the Roads Authority .
The decision regarding the extension of the paid parking zone belongs to the Warsaw Council. The councilors will soon receive a consultation report. Later, one of the committees will deal with the project. The zone is planned to be launched in autumn 2020.
