The reconstruction of pl. Narutowicza in Ochota was planned to start 2020. The investment, which has been postponed several times, will probably be postponed again. The tram loop, which will be closed during the modernization of the square, will be needed both during the construction of the tram line from the West Station to Wilanów and during the renovation of the cross-city line. This is one of the many reasons for the delay in construction.
The topic of reconstruction of Narutowicza Square and has been ongoing for several years. Work on the concept of rebuilding the central Ochota square has also been going on for several years. According to the concept, both roadways of ul. Grójecka, which crosses the square, are to be narrowed and grouped on one side of the square, under the church. Filtrowa Street is to connect with Grójecka at ul. Słupecka. The planned changes are also to include the tram terminals. The current one is to be replaced by a single-track loop for servicing historical trams and emergency traffic. Tram stops are to be located north of Słupecka and south of Barska. Common space recovered as a result of changes will be transformed into public space with more greenery.
However, as the portal transport-publiczny.pl wrote, during the last meeting in the Infrastructure Office, the postponement of the redevelopment date was considered pl. Narutowicza for a later date, after the construction of the tram to Wilanów (until 2023) or even after the completion of works related to the renovation of the cross-city railway line (even 2027).
As Tomasz Demiańczuk from the press office of the city hall said in an interview regarding public transport, during the above-mentioned works it will be necessary to organize substitute transport, and keep the existing shape of the tram terminal at pl. Narutowicza would be a very good technical security for maintaining traffic continuity. However, as Demiańczuk emphasizes, until the final decision is made, the Municipal Road Investment Management Board will continue to work on the investment in accordance with the schedule resulting from the current Multiannual Financial Forecast, which provides investment financing until 2022.
