In four years we will go through an underground tunnel from Warszawa Zachodnia station to Wilanów. The city released more details on the long-awaited tram route. The entire route and project is to be ready in four years time.
Second attempt at the tram to Wilanów
Plans and detailed designs of the underground route from the West Railway Station to ul. Grójecka (1.6 km) have already been submitted in the past. In August, Warsaw Trams cancelled the proceedings because the only offer received at that time (Schuessler-Plan Inżynierzy – PLN 6.84 million) almost twice exceeded the available budget.
There are more volunteers in the second tender, because as many as six companies entered:
- Katowice Bridges – 5.47 million PLN
- Progreg – PLN 5.49 million
- ILF Consulting Engineers Polska – 5.89 million PLN
- consortium MPRB, MP-Mosty and Arcadis – PLN 6.27 million
- Schuessler-Plan Inżynierzy – 6.42 million PLN
- Egis Poland – PLN 7.09 million.
Unfortunately, all offers significantly exceed the budget of the tram driver – PLN 3.674 million. Does this mean that the proceedings will be annulled again?
We have modified the requirements and needs of the tram line. we are at the initial stage of analyzing the offers. It is still too fast, to commit to any of the offerssays Michał Dutkiewicz from Warsaw Trams.
The contractor selected in the offerings will have 18 months to prepare the project documentation and to obtain administrative approvals and permits, including building permits. We planned the most important construction works for 2022 and 2023says Michał Dutkiewicz from Warsaw Trams.
Which way will the tram go?
The entire route to Wilanów is about 20 kilometers long. The current offer is for the most complicated section from the Warszawa Zachodnia station. The first stop is planned directly below the railway platforms. PKP is responsible for its construction, which renovates the entire station and the railway junction. The trams will start from the 500-meter tunnel at al. Jerozolimskie and the West Park.
The tram from the tunnel emerges between the streets of ul. Bitwy Warszawskiej 1920, at the height of the Ibis hotel. It will go up the hill to Grójecka Street, where a fork will be created in three directions: to the Center, Okęcie and Banacha loops.
